What French Days on Campus are all about:

French Days on Campus are festive events organised on Australian university campuses, in collaboration with Campus France Australia, the French Embassy and a broad range of actors in the French-Australian relationship.

Part of the campus is transformed into a "French Quarter" to give the university’s community a chance to discover French higher education, opportunities for funding, mobility, research and innovation, business and employment, as well as language, culture, arts and the sharing of ideas.

The event is a collaborative effort between the host Australian university, the French Embassy, the Alliance Française, the French Australian Chamber of Commerce (FACCI), and student / faculty groups with a special interest in France – the Departments of Languages and/or French Studies, faculty members who collaborate with French partners, French clubs or societies, and the International Departments.

What activities you may find during these special days:

  • Industry fair - Booths from various actors give students an opportunity to interact face-to-face with The Embassy and Campus France promoting study opportunities in France, the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce and French businesses present in Australia highlighting graduate programs, internships or employment opportunities, academic networks promoting research collaborations, the Alliance Française, tourism and cultural stakeholders.
  • Cultural events - French jazz bands, DJs, mime and theatre performances, a mobile bookshop, food trucks, wine and cheese tasting, crêpes and croissants, art exhibitions and French cinema screenings.
  • Language - Conversation groups, “crash course” lectures in learning French language, and surprise installations of French language around campus.
  • Public lectures and presentations - Roundtable discussions by academic and scientific trailblazers highlighting some of the research collaborations between France and Australia, information sessions on opportunities for studies in France, testimonies from former exchange students, and a Q&A session with the Ambassador of France.
  • Networking cocktail - Evening events bringing together all stakeholders and students interested in France in a social setting.

A bit of History:

The first French Day took place at Macquarie University in October 2017, followed by three French Days across the University of South Australia, the University of Adelaide and Flinders University in 2018 and Monash University in 2019. These events were inaugurated in the presence of H.E. Mr Christophe Penot, Ambassador of France to Australia, Mr Nicolas Croizer, Consul-General of France in Sydney, and visiting delegations from the French institutions.
