Language Assistant Application Date Extended

Apply today to become a language assistant in France or the French overseas territories! Applications are now open until the 25th of February, for a 7 month program running from 1 October 2025 until 30 April 2026. 

An amazing opportunity to teach English in France

This program is designed to give students, young people, and recent alumni the opportunity to discover a new region and culture by working alongside an English teacher in a French school environment in Metropolitan France and its overseas departments.

It is not aimed at experienced teachers, and whether or not candidates intend to become language teachers, it is a fantastic opportunity to gain seven months of international professional experience.

This program is open to students of all disciplines who can demonstrate competence in French, and who are seeking to increase their linguistic and cultural proficiency.

Calendar

➢ A seven-month contract from October 1 until April 30.
➢ A 12 hour per week schedule (varies depending on the school)
➢ Holidays according to the local academic dates.

 

 

How to apply

1. Ensure you are available for the entire 7-month contract, meet the eligibility criteria and can afford to live and work in France.
2. You must create an account on ADELE here; Find the Tutorial for ADELE Account creation below on this page.
3. Fill out your profile and required information, before end March.
4. You must get a French teacher to evaluate your language ability, they must create a on ADELE here If you do not have a current French teacher, contact us on education.canberra-amba@diplomatie.gouv.fr for an evaluation.

5. Once all your documents are submitted, your application status will be moved to pending.
6. The next step is to have an interview over the phone or Zoom with the Embassy, in French, to discuss your motivation for the program and why you want to become a language assistant. We will email you to arrange a time that arranges your schedule. This will be an informal chat of around 10 minutes.
7. The outcomes of the applications will be announced no later than June, and you will be affected to a region around July.
8. Your paperwork will be sent to you in September, and you should not plan any holidays before you receive your visa around then.
9. The program starts in October, your school will welcome you and you can meet all your incredible students!
