Get a Diploma/Certificate in French language

Étudiants

Certain French institutions of higher education require a proficiency test or a French language diploma for the purposes of admission. It is also a great asset to show on your CV.

There are several French tests and certificates to prove your level of French. They may sometimes be required when you enrol in an institute of higher education in France.

  • The DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française - French Language Study Diploma) and the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française - Further French Language Diploma) are official diplomas awarded by the Ministry of National Education, recognised in 165 countries. Each year, over 300,000 students around the word register to take the DELF/DALF exams. They incorporate six independent diplomas that certify to the holder's ability in the four areas of language competence. Unlike the tests below, the DELF and DALF are acquired for life and are valid indefinitely.

  • The TEF (Test d'Evaluation du français French Assessment) is an international reference created and distributed by the CCI of Paris Ilede-France. It assesses the level of knowledge and skill in French on a scale of 0 to 7. It is available in an electronic version, and the result is immediate. You can sit the TEF as many times as you like.

In Australia, the DELF and DALF diplomas, as well as the language test (TCF), can be prepared and obtained at the various Alliances Françaises in each of the major cities (including Hobart, Albury and Wagga Wagga). In addition to the examination periods, the Alliances Françaises also organise DELF/DALF preparatory courses, which are not French learning classes but are specifically designed to prepare students for the DELF/DALF.

For information about exam sessions and preparatory classes, prices, and how to enrol, please contact your nearest Alliance Française in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
